Personality:  

At a glance, Yuya is a fun loving boy with a flare for the dramatic and loves to put on a show. He is not shy when it comes to announcing his presence to others or even acting a little goofy in the face of danger. His cheerfulness can be seen as annoying or even down right infuriating to others, yet he maintains this demeanor in most situations. Especially within a friend group or with people he’s familiar with. In an unfamiliar situation though, it’d be rare to see this side of him as he is easily affected by his emotions and stress. In situations he’s not comfortable with, it’s easy for people to miss the ‘cheerful’ side of this entertainer. He may become aloof, or even cold. Jumping to conclusions or seek solitude from everyone, even close friends and family. By the end of the series, he only marginally improves with this. He won't run away from a situation involving him, but he still becomes cold. It’s unknown though if this sudden change was due to his desperation to get Yuzu back or an actual change in character.

Yuya is someone who would do down right anything for the people he cares about. He may not show it in a conventional way, but he’s willing to go through anything to rescue his close friend. Even risking his own life and sanity to make sure the one he cares about is safe. Yet when asked about feelings up front, he’s likely to deny them.

His training as an action duelist, mixed with his personality and want to become like his dad. Has made Yuya a master of his craft, and he isn’t afraid to let it be seen. You can often see him flipping around and swinging from poles regularly. And in the heat of a duel, he often acts very uplifting, highly contrasting his usual demeanor. He’s even known to become somewhat over confident in his abilities. Which can sometimes lead to his downfall.

Despite his strong outward persona, the fourteen year old boy is insecure and questioning of himself. In every other aspect other than his dueling. Questioning himself, his motive, and his very being by the end of the show. Yuya is very much not comfortable with himself, and ever since the traumatic event of his father's disappearance, has used his entertainer persona as a defense mechanism. Believing it’s better to be someone else rather than himself. And even when he becomes ‘whole’ he still questions himself, his past self and his current self to the point of tears having to temporarily stop a duel.

The boy really and truly has no healthy method to deal with his depression and self destructive thoughts, any conflict with character is sure to bring him to tears, or even question his self worth. He is often seen as hypocritical because of this (in many cases they would be right) but he’d assure you he’s not. The many things he won't compromise on usually have to do with the concept of ‘dueling’ or entertainment, which he strongly believes should always be to make others happy. Over the course of the show, his involvement in more serious endeavors led him to almost abandon his previous morals in dueling, finding it increasingly harder to find enjoyment in things he used to enjoy and tending to focus more so on protecting his friends than how he himself felt.

When it comes to dealing with others, Yuya will always look to put a smile on others faces, as he believes laughter and happiness is the best medicine. To coincide with that belief, he is very much put off by violence or anything that hurts others in any capacity.  He is even willing to forgive people who have wronged him which can be seen as foolish or down right idiotic. But Yuya’s forgiveness does not come easily, he is picky on who he chooses to forgive. One deciding factor in this is if you have hurt anyone he cares about. While he is more likely to forgive if you hurt him, he will be down right cold if you hurt his friends. (though never to the point of violence)Because of his natural disposition to forgive, he seems to be relatively good at dealing with young children, his entertainment blood also helps with that.

Yuya is absolutely mortified of hurting others in any capacity and would soon rather take a bullet for someone, than end up being the reason that someone is hurting. When he does hurt others, it tends to be something he beats himself up over time and time again. To the point where he’ll give up doing something he loves and his thoughts might be consumed by his apparent ‘wrongdoing’. Usually that would be something emotional, if he were to ever hurt someone physically- in a lot of cases he would circle back to his morals and question himself as a person. As he has a very weak sense of self. In these moments, he tends to rely on past teachings from his father. He is most likely to sort out his thoughts if given enough time.

He is still relatively young and is prone to making rash decisions, in some cases even telling loved ones to “shut up” if he is honest and truly panicking. Not one to resort to violence, when he does, it is usually a feeble unpracticed punch of pure frustration and anguish. Though this is something he would most likely only do if he felt absolutely devastated and wronged. Despite his lack of confidence and extremely volatile emotional state, he tries his best to move forward in most situations and could be considered relatively resourceful under stress. Even if it takes him a couple of tries to get it down pat.
